Don't wait until after dinner for your dessert — head into Humboldt Sweets (614 Main St., Ferndale) for breakfast. The cinnamon rolls ($5) and massive caramel pecan cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven are a hot mess in the best possible way ($6). You might also see for yourself just how naughty the cream cheese and jam Naughty Buns are ($5).

That Ramone's Bakery has five branches, including shops in Wildberries Market and Pierson's Building Center, is a sign that we are unwilling to ever be very far from its berry scones, chocolate sea salt cookies and fruit pies ($1-$16). Start with the one in Old Town (209 E St., Eureka) and linger at a window table.

Watch a child's face upon entering the candy-colored environs of Mia Bella Cupcakes (1041 H St., Arcata). Adults, too, press their noses to the glass cases and struggle to choose between the filled chocolate raspberry, the birthday cake and the salted caramel ($2.85). Relax, six-packs are available to go.
