Veterans Day Observance

When: Mon., Nov. 12, 11 a.m. 2018
A Veterans Day program will honor the nineteen World War One veterans buried at Myrtle Grove Memorial Cemetery in Eureka. The 11:00 a.m. program on Monday, November 12 will include the presentation of colors and the laying of a memorial wreath by the Redwood Veterans Honor Guard. Musical selections will be provided by the Humboldt Accordionaires. Brief biographical sketches of the WWI veterans will be provided and the lives of several of the veterans will be featured. The WWI veterans include a 16-year old naval recruit; an Army brigadier general who served in both WWI and WWII; and, a veteran who saw duty in the Civil War and WWI. Descendents of the WWI veterans have been identified and invited to attend. The graves of all 210 veterans at Myrtle Grove will be decorated with American flags beginning on Saturday, November 10. Cemetery historical information and docent services will be available on Veterans Day. The cemetery, located at Myrtle Avenue and Cousins Street (just west of West Avenue), is open to the public every day of the year from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
