February — More than 100 Arcata Elementary School and Sunny Brae Middle School students sang and danced to "Home We'll Go" under the direction of event organizer and SBMS teacher Jessie Hobba (in red hat) at the sixth annual One Billion Rising event on the Arcata Plaza on Feb. 16.

April – Danny Caron (left) played lead guitar with Tom Rigney & Flambeau at the Municipal Auditorium on April 7 during the Redwood Coast Music Festival performances. They were followed by Terry Hanck with Jim Pugh and then Roomful of Blues closed out the night.

May – The Hippypotamus team raced The Lion King team toward the starting line on the Arcata Plaza on May 26 as the Kinetic Grand Championship got underway at noon.

JUNE — The gusty morning wind provided a dramatic flow to Poseidon's robes (in a transformation of the McKInley statue) on the Arcata Plaza during the Arcata Bay Oyster Festival.

June – Passing a little irony in the background billboard, the Families Belong Together protest participants marched in Old Town Eureka on Saturday, June 30.

July – Joe King of Kingfoot was brought to his knees while watching bass player Kevin Johnson perform some acrobatic licks on his bass at the Humboldt Folklife Festival in Blue Lake on July 14.

August – Volunteer Tony Wallin, of Arcata, helped move the lighted lanterns away from the shore into the gentle breeze blowing across Klopp Lake on Aug. 11 during the 36th annual Lantern Floating Ceremony at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary.

September – Erica Terence marched in the All Species Parade with a woodpecker sculpture created by Brian Tripp during the North Country Fair on Sept. 15 in Arcata.

October – Political newcomer and candidate for mayor of Eureka Susan Seaman greeted potential voters at the Old Town gazebo area during Arts Alive! on Oct. 6. She ended up winning the election in November.

October – The "Notorious Zombie RBG" (Leslie Quinn) wandered Arcata during the Oct. 31 Halloween celebration.

November – Sage Romero, of Big Pine, gave demonstrations of Paiute hoop dancing at the Intertribal Gathering and Elders' Dinner in Eureka on Nov. 10..

December – Given the usual absence of December snow, Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived at the Arcata Plaza in a horse-drawn sleigh-on-wheels on Dec. 7.
