Humboldt Bay: Premier Site of Conservation Importance to Shorebirds Along the Pacific Americas Flyway Online

As quintessential migrants, many shorebirds wend their way between distant breeding and non-breeding grounds, stopping at key wetlands to refuel. Humboldt Bay is a critical site along the Pacific Americas Flyway. Recently, the bay was recognized by the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network for its year-round importance to shorebirds. Mark Colwell will summarize this recognition and address conservation threats that jeopardize shorebird populations. Mark Colwell is an Honored Scholar of the Year (2007) and Outstanding Professor (2013) at Humboldt State University. In 2019, he finished a 20-yr study of Snowy Plovers and continues promote Humboldt Bay’s importance.
