Habitat Restoration

California State Parks invites volunteers to Humboldt Lagoons State Park from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, March 7, 2020 for a habitat restoration volunteer event in the beautiful Sitka spruce forest. We will restore our western azaleas, Rhododendron occidentale, at Stagecoach Hill Nature Trail. Volunteers will be removing vegetation that is encroaching into the azalea bushes. We will use hand tools such as: loppers, hand pruners, Pulaski, and hand saws to remove the competing vegetation. Habitat Restoration is a moderate activity and participants are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes for walking off trail, a hat, work gloves, and water. We have extra gloves and tools for volunteers. Work locations are less than a ½ mile hike from the trailhead. All participants will receive one free day use pass to Patrick’s Point State Park. All ages welcome. Meet at the Stagecoach Hill Azalea Trailhead on Big Lagoon Ranch Road. Take Highway 101 to Kane Road (highway marker 112.5); turn right and go up the hill to Big Lagoon Ranch Road following the signs to the trailhead.
