Ferndale Memorial Day Service

Ferndale has had a long tradition of honoring those who died during their service fighting for our country with a parade and memorial service. This tradition has been held in Ferndale for over 130 consecutive years. In the past, Main Street has been filled with people honoring the flag and service men and women as they passed down Main Street. Hundreds of people would gather at the Cemetery to hear the Memorial Service and watch the honor guard complete the rifle salute to Honor those who have given the Ultimate Sacrifice for our Country followed by Taps. Due to Covid-19, and the state requirements of social distancing, the traditional parade and cemetery services have been modified as follows: TH There will be no parade down Main Street. We have outlined an alternate route through Ferndale (see attached map). This route shall allow all people to honor the flag and the meaning of the day from their car, as they can park anywhere along the route. It also allows the service men and women to have a presentation of honor for their fellow service men. The servicemen and women will enter the cemetery to have their own private service to honor those lives lost during past wars. The cemetery will be closed to the public during this time, but you will be able to hear the honor guard complete the rifle salute followed by Taps. There are pre-recorded speakers, sharing messages of what this day means to them, who you may view and listen via various Facebook pages and Lost Coast Outpost. Please honor the day and the sacrifices which were made for our freedoms. If you plan on viewing the presentation of our flag, as it passes through town, please follow the social distancing requirements of our state. The tomb of the Unknown Soldier will remain at the Cemetery until the end of the day. If you would like to lay flowers on the grave, you may do so after the private military services are completed. 10:15 Veterans depart the Veterans Memorial Building on their route to the Cemetery. Park anywhere along the route to honor the flags and servicemen. 11:00 Private military service at Ferndale Cemetery (closed to public)
