The Humboldt County Historical Society offers its continuing Saturday lecture series on
Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 2:30 pm. The lecture, “Celebrating 100 Years of
Filmmaking in the Redwood Region” will be presented by Cassandra Hesseltine via
Zoom hosted by the Humboldt County Library. The lecture can viewed from the safety
and comfort of home on a personal computer, laptop, tablet or smart phone. The
deadline to sign up for access to the lecture is before 5:00 pm on Friday, November 6th.
The Redwood Region has been used as locations in filmmaking for over a century. The
Humboldt-Del Norte Film Commission is dedicated to promoting California’s film-friendly
Redwood Coast. From Valley of the Giants to Return of the Jedi, feature films are only a part of
the Film Commission projects. Learn more about the scope of projects, past, present and future
Cassandra Hesseltine became the region’s Film Commissioner in fall of 2010. Prior to taking on
the role of Film Commissioner, Cassandra worked in film and theater. She is a graduate of
Humboldt State University. As the Film Commissioner, Cassandra is committed to supporting
both out-of-town and local filmmakers while working to stimulate the local economy through
production. She believes with capable, experienced crew base, accommodating vendors, and
film-friendly locations, the region can shine as “the place to film.”
