Although the homes and businesses are decorated, and festive music seems to be playing everywhere, for some this may not be "the Most Wonderful Time of the Year." Among us are those who have recently suffered loss, those for whom this is a sad anniversary, those who are affected by the longer nights, and those who have other reasons for not feeling quite so happy. It can be difficult to find a place of comfort when everything around us seems to demand a festive spirit.
At 6PM on December 21, United Congregational Christian Church will offer a "Blue Christmas" service for those who may not be feeling so jolly this time of year. Held on the longest night of the year, the service will include a time to share - if one so chooses - the reasons why this time may be difficult, a time for comfort, and a message of hope. Communion will be offered, open to all who wish to partake, and prayers of blessing are also offered for any who desire them.
United Congregational Christian Church, an Open and Affirming congregation affiliated with the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), is at 900 Hodgson St, Eureka CA 95503, at the South end of J street. For more information, call 707.445.5488 or send email to
