nightrider: Your comment was removed for its anti-LGBTQ content.
whats goingon: Your previous account was suspended, like your new one, not because you disagree with and criticize the article here, but because you referred to the number of children murdered at an elementary school as a score.
This story has, unfortunately, only just come to the attention of the current editors, who have removed the offending term. The commenters here are correct — its use was not acceptable in 2010, nor is it now. Along with editor's note at the bottom, we offer our apology for its inclusion and that it remained for so long.
Anne: I state in the first paragraph that I didn't read the novels and am reviewing only Netflix's serial adaptation. And I reviewed it critically, as we do all the movies and shows featured in this column; some of those fare well and others don't. Enjoy away and binge the second season with my full support (just not my company).
Mickey: Your enjoyment of the series is yours and my review shouldn't, and isn't intended, to threaten that at all. It's a critical review of a piece of fiction. It's not a review of a person (though you seem to be up for that). And any chef will tell you, sharp knives are the safest.
Nowhere in the column do I excuse Bill Clinton or anyone else. And I'm not interested in taking Bill O'Reilly's freedom of speech away — so long as nobody arrests him for speaking, that remains intact. I am very clearly criticizing the decision to pay for and amplify what he has to say.
As for the hysterectomy, according to the complaint, it was a scheduled procedure that was to take place that day, not something the hospital was refusing to schedule. And there are a number of medical reasons for such a procedure aside from sterilization. I'd hope that a hospital with a Christian mission would treat all patients with more kindness.
