Orgon and his mother have fallen under the influence of the falsely pious charlatan Tartuffe. Orgon’s family will do anything to help him see Tartuffe’s blatant lies. Thus begins the set-up for the no-prisoners over-the-top farce so wickedly funny that Louis XIV forbid its public performance.
