Native Plants: The Wild Among Us

The California Native Plant Society (CNPS) invites the public to "Native Plants: the Wild among Us," Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at 7:30 p.m. at Six Rivers Masonic Lodge, 251 Bayside Road, near 7th and Union in Arcata. You may not think of developed or disturbed areas as good habitat for native plants, but surprises abound. Dr. Eva Begley, author of the recently published "Plants of Northern California, A Field Guide to Plants West of the Sierra Nevada," will share some of her finds. Dr. Begley lived in the Sacramento region for 40 years, and found an amazing array of native species in suburbia, agricultural lands, and wildlife areas managed primarily for waterfowl. She will discuss easy steps everyone can take to help native plants thrive in such places. Copies of her book will be available for purchase. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for snacks, sales, and socializing. The North Coast Chapter of CNPS offers free public programs on the second Wednesday of each month, September through May. 707-822-2015, www.northcoastcnps.org.
