Arcata Lantern Floating Ceremony

37th Annual Arcata Lantern Floating Ceremony August 10, 2019, 9:00 AM - 10:00 PM @ Lantern making will take place at the Arcata Plaza Farmer's Market. The floating ceremony will take place at Klopp Lake, located in the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary. Arcata’s Nuclear-Free Zone Committee started the Arcata Lantern Floating Ceremony 37 years ago to commemorate the U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and to affirm Arcata’s dedication to the cause of peace. The ceremony has since evolved into a beautiful opportunity for our community to come together for a collective moment of remembrance and reflection. A lantern-making station will be at the Arcata Plaza Farmers’ Market from 9 AM to 1:30 PM for those who wish to participate. The ceremony will take place at Klopp Lake, from 7:30 to 10 PM. Parking will be available at the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center parking lot on South G Street, and attendees must walk to Klopp Lake from there. A shuttle will run from Samoa Boulevard and I Street for event attendees as well. There will be no vehicle access at the Klopp Lake parking lot, except for those with a designated Disabled Person (DP) placard or license plate. For more information, please call 707-822-7091.
