Another Storm Headed to Humboldt Amid King Tides 

Another storm bringing rain and wind is on its way, with up to 50 mph gusts expected in Del Norte County, prompting the National Weather Service office in Eureka to issue a wind advisory beginning at 8 p.m. today and lasting until 4 a.m. Sunday.

Friday’s storm ushered in strong gusts across the North Coast, with Scotia’s highest clocking in at 53 mph followed by Ferndale at 46 mph, Eureka at 31 mph and Arcata at 25 mph.


This next storm will also coincide with astronomically high tides that are expected to cause flooding in low-lying areas, such as King Salmon and the Arcata Bottom, where Jackson Ranch Road has overflowed in the past.
The highest of these November king tides will be Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon and Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. King tides occur “when there is alignment of the gravitational pull between sun, moon, and Earth,” according to the California Coastal Commission, which has a citizen science project that asks residents to submit photos of the event.
